Two decades before Michael Pollan's Ominvore's Dilemma, there was "Eating for Health". Following a half-hour of socializing and tasting a tantalizing array of appetizers and beverages, Ed Bauman, Ph.D. will get down to discussing his clinical and practical experience with cancer and recovery with an emphasis on holistic lifestyle and viable therapeutic nutrition responses. Dr. Bauman will also provide an update on the initiatives for Eating for Health Institute ("E4HI"). E4HI is a start up non-profit venture that is organized as a division of Bauman College, a 501(c)(3) that has operated self-sufficiently for over 20 years. According to Dr. Bauman, Eating for Health is not just about nutrition and supplements. Eating for Health is a flexible, open and adaptable system of nutrition. It is Dr. Bauman's conviction that healthy nutrition should integrate an overall sense of taking care of one's self and taking care of the world. Thus, nutrition is the prudent care and feeding of the body, the mind, the spirit and the environment.
E4HI is based on a proven educational model that will bring forth open-minded, non-biased, non-product driven concepts to people and communities all over the world; from the lowest economic strata to the highest; from the most industrialized nations to the least.E4HI will teach people from all walks of life as well as communities how to self-garden, how to grow food and herbs, how to raise healthy chickens that produce healthy eggs, and how to work in a more collaborative way to create a culture of health. One of E4HI's long-term goals is to acquire and manage a retreat and community center in Northern California, a sort of Disneyland of health, which will offer an affordable array of services for persons recovering from serious diseases like cancer, as well as persons seeking to adopt and/or reinforce an Eating for Health lifestyle. E4HI is dedicated to teaching people sustainable nutrition and coping skills. E4HI is based on a value system referred to by Dr. Bauman as MITACOS. M=Mission, I=Integrity, T=Teamwork, A=Accountability, C=Commitment, O=Outcome, S=Service.
Ed Bauman, M.Ed., Ph.D. (University of New Mexico), is the Executive Director of Bauman College Holistic Nutrition and Culinary Arts, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Dr. Bauman is a ground-breaking leader in the field of whole foods nutrition, holistic health and community health promotion. After three decades of in-depth study of worldwide health and nutrition systems, Dr. Bauman created the "Eating for Health" nutrition system which is the foundation for Bauman College Nutrition and Natural Chef Training Programs. Dr. Bauman is also the Director of Bauman Nutrition, a natural health clinic in Sonoma County, California, where he and his staff provide nutritional consultation to individuals, families and business groups. Their work includes a wide range of functional metabolic assessments and health research for serious health problems.
"My vision of the 21st Century is that health will not be a luxury for those with income, status and access to specialized services. Health will be recognized as an essential human right, supported by our policy makers, business community, and the medical and insurance industries. The outcome of health is to actualize one's potential, physically, mentally and spiritually, based upon education, behavior, and a restoration of our personal and natural environment. Ed Bauman, Ph.D." |
